Kio Setup Manager provides guided installation workflows for each supported Kontakt.io device type. Each workflow steps through connecting the device, assigning it to a location in Smart Location, and confirming it is reporting to Kio Cloud. Installation cannot be completed from the Kio Cloud web portal — Kio Setup Manager is required.
Installation types
Two installation types are available depending on what needs to happen:
End-to-end installation covers every step for a new device: Bluetooth pairing, Wi-Fi configuration (for gateways), operation mode selection (for Portal Beams), location assignment in Smart Location, and final verification. Use this for all new device deployments.
Location assignment only assigns a pre-configured device to a room in Smart Location without repeating the full setup. Use this when a device has already been configured and only needs its physical location recorded — for example, during a site move.
Supported device installation workflows
| Device | What the workflow covers |
|---|---|
| Portal Light | Wi-Fi network setup, location assignment, LED verification |
| Portal Beam | Operation mode selection (Room Occupancy, Seat Occupancy, Footfall, or IR), Kio Cloud configuration, location assignment |
| Beam Mini | IR mode configuration, Kio Cloud registration, location assignment |
| Anchor Beacon | Location assignment and verification |
| Temp Monitor Pro | Location assignment, installation type selection, probe serial entry, Storage Unit and Threshold Setting assignment |
| Temp Monitor Lite | Location assignment, Storage Unit or Room selection, Threshold Setting assignment |
Prerequisites for all installations
Before starting any installation workflow, the following must be complete in Kio Cloud:
- Device order claimed in Device Management
- Smart Location is complete — campus, building, floor, and rooms are created
- You are signed in to Kio Setup Manager with the Device Management role assigned
For Temperature Monitor installations, also required:
- Device Management Temp Monitor Installer role assigned
- Departments created in Smart Location with rooms assigned
- Storage Units created in Temperature Monitoring (for Storage Unit monitoring)
- Threshold Settings created in Temperature Monitoring
Replacing an existing device
When a device must be physically replaced, Kio Setup Manager can transfer its location assignment and configuration to the new unit. Select Replace existing device when prompted in the installation workflow instead of Install new device. This avoids reassigning the device manually in Kio Cloud after the hardware swap.
What happens during installation
Kio Setup Manager guides you through each step and confirms completion before moving to the next. If a step fails — for example, if a gateway cannot connect to Wi-Fi — the workflow shows an error and offers guidance before you continue.
Keep your mobile device near the target device throughout the installation. Most steps require an active Bluetooth connection to write configuration to the device.
