Kio Setup Manager can find devices two ways: by scanning for devices physically nearby over Bluetooth, or by browsing your full Kio Cloud inventory. Each method shows different information and is suited to different tasks.
My Devices
My Devices shows all devices in your Kio Cloud account — the same set visible in Device Management. This list is synced from Kio Cloud and is available even when you are not physically near any devices. Use My Devices when you know which device you want to work with by name or ID, or when you need to review pending operations across your fleet.
Each device entry shows its name, model, Unique ID, current status, battery level, and any pending firmware updates or configuration operations.
Nearby Devices
Nearby Devices shows devices that Kio Setup Manager detects over Bluetooth within your current physical space. Scanning starts automatically when you switch to the Nearby tab and Bluetooth on your mobile device is enabled. Two sub-lists appear:
- My Nearby Devices — devices detected by Bluetooth that also exist in your Kio Cloud account
- Other Nearby Devices — devices detected by Bluetooth that are not in your account, such as devices belonging to a different organization or unclaimed devices
Nearby devices are sorted by signal strength (RSSI) by default — a stronger signal means the device is closer. You can re-sort by battery level, name, or pending operations.
Note: Nearby scanning requires Bluetooth and Location permissions granted in your mobile device's Settings app. If the Nearby tab shows no devices and you are near Kontakt.io hardware, confirm Bluetooth is enabled and both permissions are granted to Kio Setup Manager.
Scan mode
The Scan screen lets you identify a specific device by scanning its QR code or barcode label with your mobile device camera. After scanning, Kio Setup Manager looks up the device in your cloud inventory and opens its detail view. Use Scan when you are working with a specific device and want to confirm its identity without scrolling through a list.
How discovery relates to installation
Installation workflows start by identifying a specific device — either by scanning its label or selecting it from a nearby scan. Kio Setup Manager must communicate with the device over Bluetooth to complete configuration, so you must be physically near the device you are installing. The cloud inventory sync confirms the device is claimed to your account before the workflow begins.
If a device appears in My Devices but not in Nearby Devices, you are out of Bluetooth range. Move closer to the device and refresh the Nearby list.
