The Beam Mini is a compact BLE device that broadcasts a room number via infrared (IR). Smart Badges and other IR-capable Tags worn by staff receive that signal and include the room number in their location telemetry — giving the system room-level location certainty without relying on BLE signal triangulation alone.
The Beam Mini does not have a thermal camera and does not detect occupancy. For occupancy sensing, use the Portal Beam.
Kio Setup Manager is used to install and maintain Beam Minis on-site. Because the Beam Mini is BLE-only, Kio Setup Manager communicates with it directly over Bluetooth for all configuration work.
Important: A Portal Light must be installed and online at the same location before a Beam Mini can forward data to Kio Cloud. If the Portal Light is offline, the Beam Mini stops reporting regardless of its own status.

How Beam Mini connects
The Beam Mini has no Wi-Fi radio. It broadcasts IR room number data and relies on a Portal Light within range to forward data to Kio Cloud. Kio Setup Manager connects to the Beam Mini directly over Bluetooth during installation and maintenance.
