A Temp Monitor measures temperature and humidity for Temperature Monitoring, comparing each reading against the Threshold Setting assigned to its Storage Unit or Room. Kio Setup Manager is the only tool that configures a Monitor — installation, reconfiguration, probe setup, and pausing all happen at the device over Bluetooth.
Temp Monitors have no Wi-Fi radio. Each one relies on a gateway in range — a Portal Light or a Bluetooth-compatible Wi-Fi access point — to deliver its readings to Temperature Monitoring.
Important: A Monitor stores its readings locally, so a connectivity gap does not lose data — the stored readings sync once the connection returns. It also compares readings to its threshold on the device itself, which is why a Temp Monitor Pro can show and sound a local alert even while offline.
Supported models
| Model | Sensing | Installation types |
|---|---|---|
| Temp Monitor Pro | One or two external probes, plus an ambient sensor | Room, Storage Unit, or Both |
| Temp Monitor Lite | Self-contained sensor, no probes | Room or Storage Unit |
Only the Temp Monitor Pro has an audible alarm. The Temp Monitor Lite indicates its state with an LED.
What you can do in Kio Setup Manager
Because Temp Monitors serve Temperature Monitoring only, each workflow is documented in the Temperature Monitoring doc set:
| Action | When to use |
|---|---|
| Install a Temp Monitor Pro | Initial deployment of a Pro — assigns location, installation type, probes, and Threshold Settings |
| Install a Temp Monitor Lite | Initial deployment of a Lite — assigns location, Storage Unit or Room, and Threshold Setting |
| Reconfigure a Monitor | Changes monitoring type, assignment, or Threshold Setting after installation |
| Configure probes on a Temp Monitor Pro | Sets each probe's serial number, Storage Unit, and Threshold Setting |
| Configure the ambient sensor on a Temp Monitor Pro | Sets up room-level ambient measurement on a Pro |
| Replace a Monitor | Swaps Monitor hardware while keeping the existing assignment |
| Replace a NIST probe | Swaps a probe — including after a calibration cycle |
| Pause a Monitor | Suppresses threshold and hardware alerts during maintenance |
| Synchronize a Monitor | Recovers readings stored during a connectivity gap |
| Download monitoring data from a device | Exports the last 48 hours of raw readings for diagnosis |

How a Temp Monitor connects
Kio Setup Manager connects to the Monitor directly over Bluetooth for all configuration work, so you must be within Bluetooth range of the device. Once installed, the Monitor broadcasts its readings and a gateway in range forwards them to Temperature Monitoring — no ongoing Bluetooth connection is needed.
Installation puts the Monitor into Paused Mode while you assign its location and Threshold Setting. Paused Mode suppresses alerts during configuration; the Monitor keeps logging readings throughout.
What installation assigns
Installing a Monitor is what connects the physical device to the Temperature Monitoring data model. The workflow assigns three things, and a Monitor is not fully functional without them:
- A Smart Location room — the campus, building, floor, and room the Monitor sits in
- A monitoring target — the Storage Unit it measures inside, the Room it measures ambiently, or both
- A Threshold Setting — the acceptable reading range for that target
Important: A Storage Unit or Room with no Threshold Setting assigned cannot generate alerts. Verify the Threshold Setting is applied before leaving the site.
A Threshold Setting alone does not send notifications. An Alert Rule in Temperature Monitoring determines who is notified — if a Storage Unit or Room shows Alert setup required, no Alert Rule covers it yet.
Role requirement
Installing and configuring a Monitor requires the Device Management role plus a Temp Monitor Installer role, and which one depends on the mobile platform:
| Platform | Temp Monitor Installer role |
|---|---|
| iOS | Device Management > Temp Monitor Installer |
| Android | Setup Manager (mobile) > Temp Monitor Installer |
Either role must be paired with a Temperature Monitoring role — System Manager, Administrator, or Facilities Manager. Roles are assigned in the Users app in Kio Cloud by a user with the User Management Administrator role. See About user access to Kio Setup Manager.
