Kio Staff Safe Alerts on iPhone and iPad shows active staff duress alerts with the staff member's real-time location, and lets you acknowledge and resolve alerts directly from the device. Use the mobile app when you're a responder during a shift and need fast access to alerts for the campuses or buildings you're responsible for.
For an overview of what the app does and where it fits, see Kio Staff Safe Alerts mobile app.
Before you begin
- Your Kio Cloud user account has the Mobile User role plus one of Administrator, User, or Alerts User. See Manage user access to Staff Safe. The Mobile User role alone allows view-only access.
- You have an iPhone or iPad on iOS 17 or later.
- Your device has an internet connection (Wi-Fi or cellular).
- You know your organization's Tenant ID. Your Tenant ID is the part of your Kio Cloud URL before
.app.cloud. For example, inhttps://acmehealth.app.cloud.us.kontakt.io, the Tenant ID isacmehealth.
Tip: For shared responder iPads, Kontakt.io recommends iPad Kiosk (Single App) Mode so the device stays focused on Kio Staff Safe Alerts. Kiosk Mode is configured in iPadOS by your organization's IT staff.
Install Kio Staff Safe Alerts
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the App Store.
- Search for Kio Staff Safe Alerts.
- Tap Get to install the app. If you already have the app, tap Update to install the latest version.
The app appears on your home screen as Kio Alerts.
Sign in to Kio Staff Safe Alerts
- On your home screen, tap Kio Alerts.
- On the Sign in to Kio Cloud screen, tap Kio Cloud Account.
- Choose the region of your organization's Kio Cloud account.
- United States: for organizations in North America or the Japan–Asia Pacific region.
- United Kingdom: for organizations in the UK, EU, or other European countries.
- Custom Region: only choose this if Kontakt.io instructs you to.
- Enter your organization's Tenant ID, then tap Continue.
- Sign in with the same method you use to sign in to Kio Cloud from a web browser.
- If your organization uses Single Sign-On (SSO), tap the SSO option shown and enter your credentials.
- Otherwise, enter your email address and password.
After you sign in, the app opens the alert list. If this is your first sign-in, iOS prompts you to allow notifications. Tap Allow to receive push notifications when a new alert is triggered. For more information, see Push notifications in Kio Staff Safe Alerts mobile app.
Note: If your roles allow only view-only access, you can see alerts but the Acknowledge and Resolve buttons don't appear. Contact your Staff Safe administrator to confirm your role assignments.
Set or update your location
Your location selection filters the active alerts to those within the campuses or buildings you're responsible for. You can choose up to 10 campuses, or up to 10 buildings within a single campus.
- Campuses selected: active alerts appear for all buildings within each campus you select.
- Buildings selected: active alerts appear only for the buildings you select. All buildings must be in the same campus.
To set or change your location:
- At the top of the alert list, tap your current location.
- Choose Campuses or Buildings.
- Tap each campus or building you want to monitor. The selected count appears at the top of the list.
- Tap Save (or Next for first-time setup).
The alert list refreshes to show only alerts in the locations you selected.
Note: To monitor more than 10 locations, use the Staff Safe Simple View in the Kio Staff Safe web app.
Respond to an active alert
When a new alert is triggered, the app shows a banner notification. For critical-severity alerts, the app also plays an audio alert. If you have push notifications enabled, the alert also appears on your device's lock screen.
Two tabs separate alerts by status:
- New: alerts that haven't been acknowledged yet.
- Acknowledged: alerts that another responder has already acknowledged. These are still active and need resolution.
To respond to a new alert:
- On the New tab, find the alert.
- Review the alert details:
- Staff name and location: the staff member's name and current room. The location updates in real time as the staff member moves.
- Severity: Critical, High, Medium, Low, or Info. Higher-severity alerts have stronger visual cues.
- Last location updated: how long ago the staff member's location was last received.
- Tap Acknowledge to indicate you're responding. The alert moves to the Acknowledged tab and is visible to other responders.
To open an alert's full details and map, tap the alert in the list.
Note: If a new alert doesn't appear in the New tab, check the Acknowledged tab. Another responder may have already acknowledged it.
Resolve an alert
Resolving an alert closes the alert with a Resolution Code, indicating the incident has been responded to. Only Acknowledged alerts can be resolved. If the alert is still in the New tab, acknowledge it first.
- Tap the Acknowledged tab, then find the alert.
- Tap Resolve.
- Tap Resolution Code, then choose the code that best describes the incident.
- Optional: enter a Note with relevant details. Follow your organization's policies and procedures for what to include.
- Tap Resolve.
The alert closes and is removed from the mobile app. You can view the resolved alert in the Staff Safe web app under Alerts > List > Alerts History.
Log out
Log out when you're not actively responding to alerts. This is especially important on a shared device, because the signed-in user is recorded as the person who acknowledges and resolves alerts.
- At the top of the alert list, tap the sign-out icon.
- Tap Log out to confirm.
After you log out, push notifications stop until you sign back in.
