With Device Health, staff can get notified when your Kontakt.io IoT devices need attention. The app has several features including multiple alert types, various alert notification delivery mediums, and elective monitoring of devices including specific devices, device types, or devices in a particular location. And it's one place to view device alert activity to get insights into the overall health of your deployed devices.
Topics in this article:
-
Alert Rules. Set up Alert Rules to specify when alerts are activated for your Kontakt.io IoT devices — based on Battery Levels, Portal Light Offline status, or Last Seen status.
Customize each Alert Rule by devices, locations, threshold conditions, and the preferred method of alert notifications and the recipients. Alert notifications can be sent via email, SMS text, or to third-party system using Company Settings Webhooks.
-
Alert state awareness. An alert is comprised of a series of statuses it undergoes from activation to resolution — New, Acknowledged, and Resolved — providing users with an instant overview of each alert's current state and enabling data-driven metrics. This structured approach ensures a standard, predictable alert progression workflow, starting from the moment an alert is activated to its resolution.
-
Alert metrics and insights. The comprehensive metrics offer valuable insights, allowing you to analyze patterns and identify potential areas of concern.
From your Kio Cloud Launchpad, select Device Health. The left-menu is where you can view all alert activity and manage Alert Rules that define the monitored conditions.
A comprehensive record of all alerts. This is where staff can also set the status of an alert to Acknowledge or Resolved.
The tab view categories the alerts by their status - New, Acknowledged, Resolved - and a list of all alerts.
Provides an at-a-glance view of key alert history metrics.
Alerts Rules define what’s being monitored by each of the three alert types - Portal Light Offline, Last Seen, Low Battery. An alert is activated when a monitored condition set in an enabled rule has been reached.
Alert Rules can be customized to meet your device monitoring requirements - including the alert type, devices, locations, thresholds, and actions that define the alert notification methods.
Behind the scenes, Kio Cloud is continuously receiving data from your deployed devices and logging and monitoring their online and data activity. When a threshold is reached within an enabled Alert Rule, Device Health automatically activates an alert.
The following provides the series of statuses that an alert goes through from activation to resolution. Alert details and actions are logged and retained for historical reporting. Alert analytics are represented within the Alert History Dashboard.
-
Activated. The condition set in an Alert Rule has been reached and a new alert is activated.
-
Notifications. Alert notifications sent to staff, via email and/or text messages. Also, new alerts are displayed in the Kio Cloud alert notification area.
-
Acknowledged. Staff will acknowledge the alert as an indicator they are taking action.
-
Resolved. Staff will set the alert to Resolved to indicate the alerting condition has returned to normal. The alert ends including reminder notifications.
Autoresolve. When an alert is active or in an acknowledged state and the alerting condition returns to normal, the alert is automatically set to Resolved by the system and the alert ends. This can avoid alert fatigue and minimize the need for action during a short-term alerting condition.
Alert notifications provide the recipients with the needed information to take action. From Alert Rules, you can add your own custom messages that will be included in alert notifications - helpful when you have procedures to be followed duirng specific alerting conditions.
Below are examples of a Portal Light Offline alert notification.
You can get insights into an alert’s lifecycle at anytime, including when it was activated, the duration of the alert, and more! When a user acknowledges or resolves an alert, they can log the action taken for visibility and recording keeping purposes.
From each alert, you can:
-
View the device's location; select Show in Smart Location to view from a visual floor plan.
-
View who responded to alerts and their logged action taken.
-
Generate a PDF report for record keeping or sharing with others that do not have access to Kio Cloud.
To ensure that Device Health only monitors devices that are deployed and in use, the Deployment Status of a device must be set to 'Deployed' for it to be monitored. This measure is in place to prevent alerts for devices that have not been deployed or are no longer in use.
Note
When Kontakt.io Infrastructure devices are assigned to their installation location within Smart Location or during install using the Kio Setup Manager, their Deployment Status is automatically set to Deployed.
To view or update the Deployment Status of a Kontakt.io Tag device. go to Device Management 2.0, select Tags > from the list select the device. The Deployment Status is located in the General tab.
To view or update the Deployment status of an Infrastructure device, go to Device Management 2.0 > select Infrastructure > from the list, select the device. The Deployment Status is located in the General tab.
For detailed instructions, see Manage the Deployment Status of your devices.
