An entity represents one specific person or asset — one IV Pump, one nurse, one wheelchair. Create an entity for each person or asset in your deployment.
Before you begin
- Administrator role in Company Settings
- Entity type created for this category of person or asset
- Tag or Smart Badge claimed in Device Management (required to assign for location data)
Steps
- Open Company Settings from the Kontakt.io Launchpad.
- Select Entity Management, then select Entities.
- Select Create Entity.
- Select the Entity Type for this entity.
- Enter the External ID — a unique identifier for this entity, such as an asset tag number or employee ID. This is required and must be unique.
- (Optional) Enter a display name. Display names don't have to be unique.
- (Optional) Assign a Tag or Smart Badge to the entity so the platform can track its location.
- (Optional) Fill in any Attributes defined for this entity type.
- Select Create.
The entity appears in the Entities list. Until a Tag is assigned and detected, its status is Unknown and it has no location data.
What happens next
If you didn't assign a Tag during creation, you can assign one later — using the Kio Entity Manager mobile app (for deployment teams) or in Device Management. Until a Tag is assigned, the entity has no location data and its status remains Unknown.
