Assign a Tag to an entity

A Tag is a Kontakt.io Bluetooth Low Energy device attached to an asset or worn by a person. Assigning a Tag to an entity is what makes the entity's location available in the Kio Apps. This task covers assigning a Tag, replacing one, and checking which entities already have a Tag.

Before you begin

• Administrator role in Company Settings
• The entity already exists. See Create an entity.
• The Tag's 12-character MAC address or Unique ID — both are printed on the side or back of the Tag.

Assign a Tag

1. Open Company Settings from the Kontakt.io Launchpad.

2. Select Entity Management, then select Entities.

3. Use Search to find the entity by its ID, name, or an attribute, then select the entity's Name to open its profile.

4. Select Edit.

5. In the Assigned tag section, search for the Tag's MAC address or Unique ID, then select the Tag.

6. Select Save.

   Note: Can't find the Tag? Only Tags that aren't already assigned to an entity appear in the search. Either the Tag is assigned to another entity — return to the Entities list and search by the Tag's MAC address to find it — or, if the Tag came from a recent Kontakt.io order, its Order ID has not yet been claimed in Device Management.

Replace a Tag

Replace a Tag when the current one is lost or swapped for a new device. Assigning a new Tag releases the old one.

1. Open the entity's profile and select Edit.
2. In the Assigned tag section, search for the new Tag's MAC address or Unique ID, then select the Tag.
3. Select Save.

Check which entities have a Tag

On the Entities list, the Tag Id column shows the 12-character MAC address of the Tag assigned to each entity. A blank Tag Id means no Tag is assigned.

What happens next

If your BLE-to-Wi-Fi infrastructure is in place — Kontakt.io Portal Lights or compatible BLE access points — wait a few minutes, then refresh the page. The entity's location appears, confirming the Tag is assigned and reporting.
