To improve visibility and reduce asset loss or inventory specific to locations, Asset Tracker allows you to assign a Home Location to each asset. This is the location where the asset is typically located or used—set to a campus or a building within a campus. With Home Location tracking, you can monitor whether an asset is where it belongs and take action when it’s not.
Why it matters—Assigning Home Locations can help to reduce search time, improve accountability, and prevent loss or misplacement. By comparing real-time location data to an asset’s Assigned Home Location, you can track whether equipment has left its assigned area and automate alerts to notify staff when this happens.
With Home Location tracking and monitoring, you can:
-
Assign a Home Locations to assets—a facility (campus or a building within a campus)
-
Use filters to identify assets that are in or not in their Home Location
-
Receive alerts when an assets leaves their Home Location
-
Improve inventory control and reduce equipment loss
Each asset can be configured with a Home Location, which includes the following settings:
-
Facility—a single campus or a building within a campus
-
Department (setting for future use)—Departments are created and managed from Smart Location and rooms are assigned to their Department.
Once assigned, the system continuously compares the current location of each asset to its configured Home Location Facility.
-
From the Asset Management view, the Home Facility Presence filter lets you locate assets based on whether they are in or not in their assigned Home Location Facility.
-
With Alert Rules, you can send alerts as a method to notify staff when an asset leaves its Home Location Facility— setting the monitored location to the campus, building or to the rooms within the Home Location Facility.
The group of IV Pumps under the Surgical Services department have their Home Location Facility set to the Main Hospital, Building A.
-
Each IV Pump within the Surgical Services department is configured with its Home Location Facility (Main Hospital, Building B).
Daily or weekly workflow: a staff member checks the identify the IV Pumps not in their Home Location.
-
From the Asset Management, they set the filter to the Home Location and then adds the Home Facility Presence to Not in Home Facility. The IV Pumps that are currently located outside of Main Hospital are listed.
-
Staff can investigate and retrieve the IV Pumps that are no longer in their Home Location.
Location alerts can also be used to proactively notify staff when an IV Pump leaves the building or rooms within the Surgical Services department.
-
Assign Home Locations when adding assets.
Assign its campus or a building within a campus, for assets intended to remain in a specific area.
-
Use the Home Facility Presence filter, located in Asset Managment view, to regularly Identify assets that are no longer in their assigned Home Location to support audits and retrievals.
-
Create location alerts to get notified when an asset exists it assigned Home Location—by campus, building, floors, or rooms within its Home Location Facility.
-
Monitor trends for assets frequently leaving their Home Location—consider adjusting assignments or investigating causes.
