To improve visibility and reduce asset loss or inventory specific to locations or departments, Asset Tracker allows you to set an Assigned Home Location to each asset. This is the location where the asset is typically located or which department is belongs to. With Home Location tracking, you can monitor whether an asset is where it belongs and take action when it’s not.
Why it matters? Assigning Home Locations can help to reduce search time, improve accountability, and prevent loss or misplacement. By comparing real-time location data to an asset’s Assigned Home Location, you can track whether equipment has left its assigned area and automate alerts to notify staff when this happens.
With Home Location tracking and monitoring, you can:
Assign a Home Location to assets — Facility (campus, building) and Department.
Use filters to identify assets that are not located in their Home Location.
Receive alerts when an asset leaves their Home Location (Location Alert Type).
Improve inventory control and reduce equipment loss.
How it works
Each asset can be configured with an Assigned Home Location, which includes the following settings:
Facility: A single campus or a building within a campus.
Department: Departments are created and managed from Smart Location and rooms are assigned to their Department.
Once assigned, the system continuously compares the last received location of each asset to its configured Assigned Home Location.
From Assets Search, the Not in home location filter lets you locate assets based on whether they are not in their Assigned Home Location.
From Asset Management, the Home Facility Presence filter you can set to In Home Facility or Not In Home Facility.
With Alert Rules and the Location Alerts type, you can send alerts as a method to notify staff when an asset exits a location.
Example: Tracking IV Pumps assigned to Surgical Services
The group of IV Pumps under the Surgical Services department have their Assigned Home Location Facility set to the Main Hospital, Building A.
- Each IV Pump within the Surgical Services department is configured with its Assigned Home Location to Facility (Main Hospital, Building B).
Daily or weekly workflow: a staff member checks to identify the IV Pumps not in their Assigned Home Location.
From Asset Management, they set the Home Facility Presence filter to Not in Home Facility. The IV Pumps that are currently located outside of Main Hospital are listed.
Optionally to locate IV Pumps not within there Assigned Home Location (Facility and Department, from Assets Search, they set the Home Facility Presence filter to Not in Home Facility. The IV Pumps that are currently located outside of Main Hospital are listed.
Staff can investigate and retrieve the IV Pumps that are no longer in their Home Location.
Location alerts can also be used to proactively notify staff when an IV Pump leaves the building or rooms within the Surgical Services department.
