Asset Tracker setup combines required steps with optional advanced configurations. Once the required steps are complete, your team can quickly locate assets, gain valuable utilization insights, and more.
Topics include:
Make sure the following deployment steps are complete before starting the app setup.
-
Kontatk.io (Kio Cloud) account with activated Kio Apps
Your organization has a Kio Cloud account, and the app you’re setting up is activated (available from the Kontakt.io Launchpad).
-
Kontakt.io orders are claimed
After you receive a Kontakt.io order, claim the Order ID in Device Management. This adds devices to your account.
-
Kio Cloud Smart Location is setup
Smart Location is a hierarchical representation of the physical layout of an environment - including the campuses and buildings, and floors with room-level locations mapped from digital floor plans. From the room-level locations, all stationary infrastructure devices are assigned to and mapped to their installation location.
-
Infrastructure devices are installed and online
Infrastructure devices include Kontakt.io Portal Lights or other third-party BLE Access Points. These are BLE to Wi-Fi gateways that receive tag Kontakt.io Tag data and send the data to Kio Cloud over the local Wi-Fi network. Other Kontakt.io Infrastructure devices include the Beam Mini for 99% room-level certainty at low latency ( < 10 seconds).
Kontakt.io infrastructure devices are installed using the Kio Setup Manager mobile app.
Note
You can complete the app setup before the infrastructure is online, but asset location data will not be available.
Anyone completing these tasks must be assigned to the Asset Tracker Administrator role and the Users Administrator role.

Step 1: Create Asset Types Asset Types are categorization of assets that reflect your organization’s equipment categories.
|
|
|
Step 2: Add assets Each asset must be added along with its settings. Commonly for the first-time setup, assets are imported through the Import Wizard. |
|
|
Step 3: Tag assets Tagging is the process of assigning and attaching a Kontakt.io Tag to each tracked asset. Proper tagging ensures assets can be located quickly and accurately when needed. Tagging assets can be completed from Asset Tracker or the Kio Entity Manager mobile app (recommended method). |
|
|
Step 4: Add users and assign their Roles A user is anyone who needs access to Asset Tracker. Assign each user to an Asset Tracker role that grants their access and permissions. |
|
|
Step 5: Onboard staff Make sure your team is ready to use Asset Tracker from day one. Provide them with access, a quick walkthrough of key features, and guidance on how to track and manage assets in their daily workflows. |
Through Alert Rules staff can get notified when assets enter or exit specified locations and when PAR Levels reach a critical threshold.
An Alert Rule's configuration includes the alert type (Location or PAR Levels), the monitored location, the assets the rule applies to, and who receives alert notifications and the notification methods. Notification methods include email, SMS text, or through a Webhook that sends alerts to a third-party system.
If your deployment includes sending alerts to a third-party system, you will also need to complete the Webhooks advanced setup.
By setting up Asset Type PAR Levels by Room Types, you can proactively manage inventory by comparing real-time counts against the ideal (Target) and minimum (Critical) thresholds along with PAR Level alerts—this can reduces delays, minimizes manual audits, and help to ensure rooms are consistently stocked to meet demand.
Groups offer an additional method to categorize assets based on some type of unique data or information. Unlike Asset Types where each asset can only be assigned one type, assets can be assigned to multiple groups. As with asset types, groups can also be assigned to Alert Rules. Groups can helpful during temporary condition, such as when you need to identify assets impacted by a recall.
Automating the status of assets by their real-time room locations requires Room Management configuration—a shared component across the Kio Apps. Utilization metrics requires the setup of Room Management.
Anyone performing these tasks must be assigned to the Company Settings Administrator role.

To send alerts to a third-party system, you will need to create Webhooks and then assign the Webhooks to the Asset Tracker Alert Rules.
Anyone performing these tasks must be assigned to the Company Settings Administrator (or User) role and the Asset Tracker Administrator role.
