Intro to Kio Setup Manager – Knowledge Base

Kontakt.io's Kio Setup Manager is a mobile app that delivers Device Management tools—including the installation of Infrastructure devices (Portal Light, Beams, Beacons, Temp Monitors) and access to view and manage the basic configuration of Tag devices (Asset Tags, Nano Tags, Sticker Tag, Smart Badges). In addition, the app provides local device troubleshooting and configuration tools.

Things to know

User access requirements. You must be assigned to a Device Management role. A role determines your permission level and which devices you can access. For example, a user assigned the Device Management Administrator role has full permissions to all devices. For more information, see Manage user access to Device Management.
Account type. You'll need to know if your organization's account is a Tenant or Non-Tenant type. You can identify the account type from the URL used to sign in from a web browser.

Tenant account type: You sign in to Kio Cloud from an unique URL that includes the Tenant ID. Example: https://[Tenant ID].app.cloud.[us or uk].kontakt.io.

Non-Tenant account type: You sign in to Kio Cloud from https://app.cloud.us.kontakt.io or https://app.cloud.uk.kontakt.io.
Account Region. During sign in, you'll need to select the region of your organization's account.

The Region is also located in the account URL (https://[Tenant ID].app.cloud.[us or uk].kontakt.io).

Download the Kio Setup Manager app

Kontakt.io Infrastructure devices, those that remain in a fixed, stationary position, are required to be installed using the Kio Setup Manager mobile app. If you already have the app, be sure you have the latest version.

To download the app, go to the App Store or Google Play. Search for Kio Setup Manager.

Device compatibility: iPhone or iPad: iOS version 16 or later | Android phone or tablet: version 8 or later
Connectivity: Bluetooth enabled | Wi-Fi connection with Internet

Navigating the app

Home: snapshot of device health (only includes devices with a Deployed status) and account sign-in profile.

Top-right icon: view account details or log out.

Gateways: number of Portal Lights currently online or offline.

Inventory: total number of deployed devices (Deployment Status is Deployed)

Pending: number of devices with a pending configuration update. For environments without a Portal Light infrastructure, you must run a Telemetry Sync to complete the update

Battery Levels: status of device batteries across all deployed battery-powered devices.
Devices: list of Kontakt.io devices.

Nearby Devices (default view): devices within Bluetooth range.

My Devices: devices you have access to but that are not within Bluetooth range.

Search, sort, or filter by model, order ID, pending configuration, or deployment status.
Scan: view a device and its available actions by scanning its QR code.
Install: step-by-step guidance to install Infrastructure devices— Portal Light, Portal Beam, Beam Mini, Anchor Beacon, Dispeser Beacon, Temp Monitor Pro, Temp Monitor Lite.
Tools: validation and troubleshooting features in one place, including:

Location Validation: a tool to validate the real-time, physical location of a Tag to its last received location in the cloud.

Telemetry Sync: a tool to synchronize nearby devices’ battery levels and other telemetry data with the cloud over the mobile device's internet connection. A helpful tool for those without a Portal Light infrastructure or when troubleshooting device data being received by the cloud.

Beam Troubleshooting: tools for the Portal Beam and Beam Mini.

Portal Beam only: Validate Thermal Image (capture real-time thermal image, view and add Exclusion Zones). Recalibrate Thermal Camera (resets calibration to environment).

Portal Beam and Beam Mini: tool checks whether a Beam is correctly transmitting room-level location data through infrared (IR) and whether Tags (with IR enabled) located in the room location can receive it.

Portal Light Troubleshooting: generate Diagnostic Report to get it settings (Wi-Fi connection and online status). Collect Logs to share with Kontakt.io Support.
