Room types classify Smart Location rooms by function and set their capacity and occupancy properties. Create a room type for each distinct type of space in your deployment (for example, "Exam Room," "Break Room," "Nursing Station").
Creating a room type is a two-stage workflow: you first create the room type with a name, then open its details page to set its Profile and configure workplace settings and Entity Type rules.
Before you begin
- Administrator role in Company Settings
- Smart Location rooms drawn on at least one floor (rooms are matched to room types separately)
Create the room type
- Open Company Settings from the Kontakt.io Launchpad.
- In the navigation menu, select Room Management, then select Room Types.
- Select Create Room Type.
- Enter a Room Type Name.
- Select Save.
The room type appears in the Room Types list. Open it to configure its properties.
Configure the room type
Open the room type from the Room Types list to set its properties across three tabs.
- On the General tab, select a Profile for the room type (for example, Patient and Exam, Supply Storage, Soiled Utility, Staff Station, Transit, or Other). The Profile classifies the space and sets defaults for its Entity Type rules and workplace settings.
- On the Workplace tab, set the workplace properties:
- Select a Workplace Type: Collaboration or Concentration.
- Enter Max Capacity — the maximum number of people the space can hold.
- Enter Target Occupancy — the intended number of occupants. Target occupancy cannot exceed max capacity.
- On the Entity Types tab, add the Entity Types expected in this room type and configure their status rules.
- Save your changes.
The room type is available to assign in Room Matching.
What happens next
Match the room type to specific Smart Location rooms using Room Matching. A room type has no effect until it is assigned to at least one room.
