Kio Temperature Monitoring replaces manual environmental checks with continuous, automated monitoring of temperature-controlled Storage Units, including refrigerators, freezers, warmers, and incubators, as well as Rooms where medications, vaccines, blood products, and biological materials are stored.
It detects excursions in real time, alerts the right people when action is needed, and helps produce documented readings and alert response records for audits, inspections, and accreditation reviews.
Why it matters
Pharmacies, laboratories, and clinical units store products and materials that can lose efficacy, integrity, or usability when temperature or humidity drifts outside a defined acceptable range. Manual rounds can miss excursions that happen overnight, on weekends, or between checks, and the paper logs they produce may not provide a defensible audit record.
Kio Temperature Monitoring closes that gap:

A Storage Unit or Room is monitored once a Temp Monitor is installed and assigned to it. A Room appears in Temperature Monitoring only after a Temp Monitor is installed for it.
How it works
A reading moves through four stages, from collection to compliance record:
- Record. A Temp Monitor continuously samples temperature and humidity and logs readings at a set interval. If a reading stays out of threshold for 60 consecutive seconds, the Monitor sends it to the cloud immediately, regardless of the logging interval, so excursions surface promptly even at longer logging intervals.
- Evaluate. Each reading is measured against the Threshold Setting assigned to the Storage Unit or Room. A reading outside the threshold range is an excursion. Without a Threshold Setting, no excursion can be detected.
- Alert. The excursion triggers an alert, and notifications are sent to the right people by email, SMS text, or to a third-party system.
- Resolve. Alerts do not close on their own. A responder acknowledges the alert, takes corrective action, and resolves it with a Corrective Action, creating the documented compliance record.

NIST calibration
Calibration traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) helps make Temperature Monitoring readings defensible in an audit.
- Probes ship with a 3-year NIST calibration certificate by default.
- Temp Monitor Pro and Temp Monitor Lite devices can be ordered with a 3-year NIST calibration certificate as an option. Specify it at order placement.
- Download the current certificate from Temperature Monitoring whenever an auditor asks, and plan to replace a probe or device as its certificate nears expiration.
What's important to know
- Built on a secure platform. Temperature Monitoring is built on the Kontakt.io Kio platform, which is HIPAA-compliant and SOC 2 Type II certified, with end-to-end encryption and independently audited security controls.
- It supports, but does not replace, your procedures. Temperature Monitoring supplements your facility’s procedures and clinical judgment. It does not decide whether a product is still usable after an excursion.
- Alerts require both a Threshold Setting and an Alert Rule. A Threshold Setting lets the system detect an excursion. An Alert Rule determines who is notified. A Storage Unit, Room, or Temp Monitor missing either is flagged in the Monitoring view.
- Alerts require human resolution. Alerts do not close automatically. A responder must document the corrective action so the alert record can support audits and inspections.
