Responders can now narrow the Simple View to the specific floors or departments they cover.
Available in: Staff Safe (web)
The Simple View location filter now offers four ways to choose what a responder watches: Campus, Building, Floor, and Department. Previously it offered campuses and buildings only, so a responder covering three floors of a hospital had to watch every alert in the building.
What's new
The filter opens from the location selector above the alert cards and gives each option its own tab.
Here is the same filter before this update — a single list of campuses and their buildings, with no floor or department option:
Choose one type of location at a time. Select Campus, Building, Floor, or Department, then select the locations of that type you want to watch. Switching to a different tab replaces the previous selection rather than adding to it.
Floors and departments are chosen within one campus. On the Building, Floor, and Department tabs, select a campus at the top of the panel first, then select from that campus. The Campus tab lists every campus you have access to.
Floors are grouped by building, so a "3rd Floor" in two different buildings stays distinguishable. Searching for a building name in the Filter floors box returns that building's floors.
Departments show where they are. Each department lists the buildings and floors it covers underneath its name, and the search box matches on either.
Your selection applies when you choose Apply, or when you close the panel. Revert returns to the selection that is currently applied, and Clear removes the filter.
You can select up to 25 locations at a time. The filter applies to your own sign-in only, and lists the campuses and buildings your user profile gives you access to.
Why it matters
On a large campus, a responder rarely covers the whole site. Together, the four location options let each person see the alerts they are responsible for and nothing else — which is what keeps the Simple View usable as an organization grows from one building to a full campus.
Match the filter to a floor assignment. A security team covering specific floors of a hospital can watch only those floors instead of every alert in the building.
Match the filter to how the organization is run. Departments are the operational units staff already work in — the Emergency Department, Pharmacy, Labor and Delivery. A department leader can watch that department's alerts wherever its rooms are, including when the department occupies parts of more than one floor or building.
Keep a nurse-station display relevant. A Simple View screen at a nurse station can show the floor that station covers, so the staff watching it see alerts they can respond to.
What you need to do
No action required — the new filter options are available in the Simple View. Existing responders keep the campus or building selection they already had; it carries over as a Campus or Building filter, and the Simple View continues to show the same alerts until someone changes it.
Responders who cover a floor or a department can open the location filter and select the Floor or Department tab.
