If a Monitor reports Probe disconnected, a probe is no longer giving the Monitor a reading. The condition can affect an external probe on a Temp Monitor Pro or the internal ambient sensor (the default title is "Internal probe disconnected"). It is the most common Temp Monitor Pro support issue, and it usually follows the probe being moved, bumped, or unseated. The Storage Unit or Room the affected sensor serves stops being monitored until the probe reconnects.
Before you troubleshoot
- Confirm the status: the Monitor or its Storage Unit shows Probe disconnected in the Monitoring view.
- Identify which probe is affected if the Monitor uses two.
Causes and resolutions
The probe was moved or unseated
A probe can disconnect when it is repositioned, when its cable is pulled, or when its connector works loose.
- Check the probe's connection at the Monitor. Reseat the USB-C connector firmly.
- Check the probe cable along its route for damage or a pinch point, such as a door gasket.
- Return the probe tip to its original position, in its buffer at the center of the unit at mid-depth. Do not relocate it to a new spot.
- Watch the Monitor for a reading to return. The status clears once the probe reports again.
The probe or cable is damaged
If reseating the connector and confirming placement does not restore a reading, the probe or its cable may be damaged.
- Inspect the cable and connector for visible damage.
- If the probe is faulty, replace it and reconfigure the Monitor with the new probe's serial number. See Reconfigure a Monitor.
If the issue persists
If the probe still shows disconnected after reseating and inspection, contact Kontakt.io support. Include the Monitor's Unique ID, the probe's serial number, and which probe port is affected.
Important: While a probe is disconnected, its Storage Unit is not being monitored. Treat a probe-disconnected condition with the same urgency as an excursion until readings return.
