Replace a NIST probe

NIST calibration certificates are issued for a fixed term, typically three years. When a Temp Monitor Pro probe's certificate is nearing expiration, replace the probe with a new pre-calibrated probe to keep its readings compliant. The Monitor stays in place; only the probe is swapped. Probe replacement is the most common calibration-renewal scenario for Temp Monitor Pro devices.

Before you begin

  • You have identified which probes are nearing expiration from a calibration report or the certificate dates in the Monitor's profile. Allow 30 to 90 days to schedule the swap.
  • You have ordered replacement probes from Kontakt.io. Replacement probes ship pre-calibrated; you return the expired probes for recalibration.
  • The Kio Setup Manager mobile app is installed on your mobile device and you are signed in. See Sign in to Kio Setup Manager (Temperature Monitoring).
  • Bluetooth is turned on, your mobile device has an internet connection (Wi-Fi or cellular), and you are within Bluetooth range of the Monitor.
  • You are assigned a Temperature Monitoring role with install access (Administrator, System Manager, or Facilities Manager) and the Kio Setup Manager installer role for your platform. See Temperature Monitoring user roles.

Tip: Make sure Kio Setup Manager is updated to the latest version. Check for updates in the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).

Steps

1. Turn on Paused Mode

Pause the Monitor before disconnecting the probe so the disconnection does not trigger a false alert.

  1. Open Kio Setup Manager and tap Scan, then tap the Monitor.
  2. On the Actions screen, tap Turn On Paused Mode.

2. Remove the expired probe

  1. Unplug the probe cable from the Monitor.
  2. Remove the probe from its thermobuffer bottle inside the Storage Unit.

3. Install the replacement probe

  1. Place the new pre-calibrated probe in the thermobuffer bottle, in the same position as the old one.
  2. Plug the probe cable into the same probe port on the Monitor.
  3. On the Monitor's Actions screen, tap Configure Probes, then assign the probe to its Storage Unit, enter the new probe's serial number, and confirm the Threshold Setting. See Configure probes on a Temp Monitor Pro.

4. Resume monitoring

  1. On the Actions screen, tap Turn Off Paused Mode.
  2. In Temperature Monitoring, confirm that readings are updating for the Storage Unit, no Probe disconnected alert is active, and the status shows normal operation.

5. Return the expired probe

Ship the expired probe back to Kontakt.io in the return packaging included with the replacement.

Result

The new calibration certificate is associated with the probe's serial number. Confirm the updated expiration date in the Monitor's profile, and download a calibration certificate for your compliance records. See Download a calibration certificate.
