Installing a Temp Monitor Pro connects the device to Kio Cloud, assigns it to the Storage Unit or Room it will measure, and assigns a Threshold Setting. You install a Temp Monitor Pro on-site with the Kio Setup Manager mobile app. This task cannot be done from the Temperature Monitoring web app.
Before you begin
Make sure the following are complete:
- Temperature Monitoring role: Facilities Manager, System Manager, or Administrator.
- Kio Setup Manager mobile app role: iOS — Device Management Temp Monitor Installer. Android — Setup Manager (mobile) Temp Monitor Installer.
- Mobile device: Kio Setup Manager mobile app installed, iOS 17+ or Android 8+, Bluetooth on, and an internet connection (Wi-Fi or cellular).
-
Account Tenant ID and Region: Both are visible in the web app sign-in URL,
https://[Tenant ID].app.cloud.[us or uk].kontakt.io. The subdomain is the Tenant ID, and theusoruksegment is the Region. -
Cloud apps prerequisites:
- The Temp Monitor order is claimed in Device Management.
- The Smart Location hierarchy is complete, including campus, building, floors, and rooms.
- Smart Location Departments are created and assigned to the correct Rooms.
- Temperature Monitoring setup is complete, including Storage Units and Threshold Settings.
- You know which Threshold Setting applies to the Storage Unit or Room where the Temp Monitor will be installed.
- Temperature Monitoring Alert Rules are created and active if you want alerts to trigger during or after installation.
- On hand: Temp Monitor Pro device, one or two probes (Storage Unit installs), thermobuffer bottle, tape or cable ties, and door-gasket-safe cable routing.
Tip: Make sure Kio Setup Manager is updated to the latest version. Check for updates in the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).
Power on the Temp Monitor Pro
- Long-press any button for 5 seconds. The display lights up and the device begins its startup sequence.
- Verify the display. Confirm the top bar shows the current sensor view (Ambient, Probe 1, or Probe 2), the battery icon, and the time.
- LED stays solid for now. The Pro is in Paused Mode until you install it. The LED begins to blink only after install completes.
Monitor and probe placement
Correct placement directly affects reading accuracy. Position the device, probes, and cables before starting the install with the Kio Setup Manager.
Monitor device
- Mount on the door hinge side or on the front side of the Storage Unit (not the back).
- Position where it is accessible for maintenance and visible for checking the display.
- For Room installs, mount on a wall. Avoid air ducts, windows, exterior walls, direct sunlight, and equipment that exhausts hot air.
Probes and thermobuffer (Storage Unit and Both)
- Place the probe and thermobuffer bottle in the center of the Storage Unit at mid-depth.
- Keep a 3 to 6 in (7.6 to 15.2 cm) gap between stored contents and the thermobuffer bottle. Contact with cold items reads lower than actual storage temperature.
- Do not place a probe in the direct path of a cooling fan.
- For wire shelving, secure the probe and thermobuffer to the underside of a center-rear shelf.
- Once positioned, tape or zip-tie the thermobuffer so it cannot shift.
Cable management
- Secure the probe cable every 6 in (15.2 cm) and at every turn.
- Route the cable through a door gasket or a dedicated port. Never let a door pinch the cable.
Sign in to Kio Setup Manager
Sign in to Kio Setup Manager before you start. For the full sign-in steps, including Region and Tenant ID, see Sign in to Kio Setup Manager (Temperature Monitoring).
Steps: Install with the Kio Setup Manager mobile app
- From the Home screen, tap Install.
- Find the Temperature Monitor product tile and tap it.
- Scan the QR code on the device. Or, if unreadable, tap Enter MAC / Unique ID, type the MAC address printed on the Monitor, and tap Submit.
- Tap the installation type (Room, Storage Unit, or Both), then tap Next.
- Paused Mode: tap Pause Now to put the device into Paused Mode for configuration. If it already shows Paused Mode ON, tap Next.
- Choose location: tap the campus, then the building, then the floor, then the room. Tap Next, then Next again to confirm.
- Branch based on installation type:
- Room or Both: on Assign Threshold Setting, tap the Threshold Setting row and select the Threshold Setting for the room. Tap Next.
- Storage Unit or Both: on Plug in probes, confirm the connected probes (the Pro supports one or two; connect only what you are using). Tap Next. On Configure connected probes, for each probe: scan the QR code on the probe's white label (or tap Enter Probe Serial Number if unreadable) > assign a Storage Unit > assign a Threshold Setting. Next stays disabled until all connected probes are configured.
- Add device note (optional), for example the device's location in the room, then tap Next.
- Review Setup complete. Confirm location, ambient sensor (if applicable), and probe assignments. Tap Confirm.
- When Installation Success! appears, tap Exit. The device begins reporting.
Result
Kio Setup Manager confirms the installation. The Monitor begins reporting, and the Storage Unit or Room appears in the Monitoring view in Temperature Monitoring, showing Online when readings are within threshold. A newly monitored Room appears in Temperature Monitoring for the first time after this installation.
Add the Storage Unit or Room to an Alert Rule if it is not already covered, so its excursions notify someone. A Storage Unit not in any rule shows Alert setup required.
Note: After installation, do not move the probes. Moving a probe can disconnect it, setting the Monitor's status to Probe disconnected and triggering an alert.
