Replace a Monitor

Replace a Monitor when the device itself, rather than its probes, needs swapping. The replacement keeps the Storage Unit or Room it serves, along with its history. Replace a Monitor when it has a sensor or hardware failure, when a Temp Monitor Lite's sealed battery is depleted, or when its NIST calibration certificate is expiring and the whole device must be recalibrated. You replace a Monitor on-site with the Kio Setup Manager mobile app.

For a Temp Monitor Pro where only a probe's certificate is expiring, replace the probe instead and leave the Monitor in place. See Replace a NIST probe.

Before you begin

  • The Kio Setup Manager mobile app is installed on your mobile device and you are signed in. See Sign in to Kio Setup Manager (Temperature Monitoring).
  • Bluetooth is turned on, and your mobile device has an internet connection (Wi-Fi or cellular).
  • You are assigned a Temperature Monitoring role with install access (Administrator, System Manager, or Facilities Manager) and the Kio Setup Manager installer role for your platform. See Temperature Monitoring user roles.
  • The replacement Monitor is the same model, its order is claimed in Device Management, and it is mounted or placed where the old one was.
  • For a calibration-renewal replacement: you have identified Monitors nearing expiration from a calibration report or the device profile (allow 30 to 90 days), and ordered a replacement from Kontakt.io. Replacement Monitors ship pre-calibrated; you return the old one for recalibration.

Tip: Make sure Kio Setup Manager is updated to the latest version. Check for updates in the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).

Steps

  1. Mount or place the replacement Monitor where the old one was, and power it on.
  2. In Kio Setup Manager, install the replacement and assign it to the same Storage Unit or Room the old Monitor served. Follow Install a Temp Monitor Pro or Install a Temp Monitor Lite.
  3. Assign the same Threshold Setting the Storage Unit or Room used. For a Temp Monitor Pro, place and configure the probes as before, entering each probe's serial number.
  4. Verify the new Monitor's readings look correct, then apply the configuration.
  5. Remove the old Monitor from service.

Result

The Storage Unit or Room continues monitoring with the new Monitor and keeps its history. Readings the old Monitor recorded remain available in measurement history and reports. After installation, threshold alerts are held for the alert arming delay while the new device's readings stabilize.

Note: A Temp Monitor Lite's battery is sealed and cannot be replaced. When its battery is depleted, replace the Monitor.

After a calibration-renewal replacement

When you replace a Monitor to renew its calibration, the new calibration certificate is associated with the replacement's serial number. Confirm the updated expiration date in the Monitor's profile, download a calibration certificate for your records, and return the old Monitor to Kontakt.io in the return packaging included with the replacement.
