Responding to alerts is the most common day-to-day task in Kio Temperature Monitoring, and every role can do it. The Administrator, System Manager, Facilities Manager, Monitoring User, and User can all acknowledge and resolve alerts for the locations they have access to. The one exception is escalation alerts, which only the assigned Group can act on, covered in Escalated alerts below.
The response is the same regardless of alert type: acknowledge the alert so others know it is being handled, take corrective action, then resolve it with a Corrective Action to document what was done. What changes is the corrective action, which depends on what triggered the alert.
The response in brief
- Acknowledge the alert to signal you are handling it. On a Temp Monitor Pro, acknowledging also silences the audible alarm (the Temp Monitor Lite has no audible alarm). See Acknowledge an alert.
- Take corrective action for the condition. See the table below.
- Resolve the alert with a Corrective Action once the condition is stable and the response is documented. See Resolve an alert.
Acknowledging and resolving are also what stop reminders and escalation, depending on how the Alert Rule is configured.
Note: An alert does not close on its own. Even after the reading returns to range or the device recovers (condition status Back to normal), the alert stays open until a person resolves it. That final step is what creates the compliance record.
Actions to take by alert type
The steps below are common starting points. Always follow your facility's procedures, which take precedence.
| Alert type | What it means | Common first response |
|---|---|---|
| Threshold alert for Storage Unit | A Storage Unit reading is outside its range. | Go to the Storage Unit and check for a propped or open door, a power loss, or recently added warm product. Move product if your SOP requires it. |
| Threshold alert for Room | A Room's ambient temperature or humidity is out of range. | Check the Room for an open door, HVAC failure, or heat- or humidity-generating equipment, and whether adjacent rooms are also affected. Escalate to facilities if needed. |
| Hardware error alert | The Monitor reports a hardware fault, such as a disconnected probe. | Go to the Monitor. On a Temp Monitor Pro, confirm the probe is securely connected. If the fault cannot be cleared, the device may need service or replacement. For a sensor fault, see Troubleshooting: Sensor failure. |
| Monitor offline alert | The Monitor has stopped reporting. | Confirm the Monitor is powered on and mounted, then check the local Wi-Fi network and nearby gateway connectivity. The Wi-Fi may be down or the nearest gateway is offline. |
Escalated alerts
If an alert is not acknowledged or resolved in time or the condition that triggered the alert is still active, its Alert Rule can escalate it—Temperature Monitoring triggers a new escalation alert and notifies a designated Group. The original alert and each escalation are linked in the Escalation Chain, which you can open from any alert's detail view to see every related alert and its status.
Important: An escalation alert can be acknowledged and resolved only by members of its assigned Group. Everyone who can view alerts can see it, but only Group members can act on it. The original alert still resolves under the normal permissions.
For how escalation is set up, including trigger conditions and multi-level chains, see About escalation alerts.
If you cannot resolve the condition
If corrective action does not clear the condition, or the Monitor needs service or replacement, escalate to your Temperature Monitoring administrator, facilities team, or installer. Clearing a hardware error or bringing an offline Monitor back usually means working on the device on-site with the Kio Setup Manager mobile app. Resolve the alert only once the condition is stable and documented.
