Creating a Storage Unit adds a record for one refrigerator, freezer, or other piece of storage you want to monitor. Create the Storage Unit before a Monitor is installed, because the installer assigns the Monitor to an existing Storage Unit during installation.
Before you begin
- You are signed in with a role that can manage Storage Units: Administrator or System Manager in Temperature Monitoring, or Company Settings Administrator in Company Settings.
- Smart Location is set up, so the room you assign the Storage Unit to exists.
- The Storage Unit Type you need already exists. See Create Storage Unit Types.
Steps
- From the Kontakt.io Launchpad, open Temperature Monitoring.
- Select Monitoring, then open the Storage Units tab.
- Select Actions > Create new.
- Choose the Storage Unit Type. The read-only Associated Apps list shows which Kio Solution apps the type belongs to.
- Enter a unique External ID, up to 35 characters. This is the system's match key for the unit, including for CSV import, and it cannot duplicate an existing one.
- Enter a Name that staff will recognize; up to 35 characters allowed.
- Set the Location by choosing the campus, building, and floor.
- Choose the room from Assign Room. The list shows the rooms on the selected floor. The unit's department is derived from the room you assign.
- Optionally, choose a Manufacturer, then a Model, and enter a Serial number. Model is required if you set a Manufacturer.
- Select Create.
Result
The Storage Unit appears in Temperature Monitoring with the status Threshold setup required. Next, from the Kio Setup Manager mobile app install a Monitor and assign it to this Storage Unit and a Threshold Setting.
Tip: To add many Storage Units at once, import them from a CSV file instead. See Import Storage Units from CSV.
