If a Monitor shows Not reporting or Offline, Temperature Monitoring has stopped receiving its readings. The Monitor usually keeps recording locally, so readings taken while it was offline are not lost; they sync once the connection returns. This article covers why a Monitor stops reporting and how to restore it.
Before you troubleshoot
- Confirm the status in the Monitoring view: Not reporting or Offline.
- Note when the last reading was received, shown in the Monitor's details.
Causes and resolutions
The gateway coverage dropped
A Monitor reports through the gateways in your facility: Portal Lights or Bluetooth-compatible Wi-Fi access points. If the nearest gateway lost power or network, the Monitor has no path to the cloud.
- Confirm the gateways near the Monitor are powered and online.
- Confirm the Monitor has not been moved away from gateway coverage.
- Once a gateway is back online, wait for the Monitor's next reporting interval. Readings stored during the gap sync automatically.
The network had an outage
If your facility's network was down, every Monitor that reports through it goes offline together.
- Confirm the network is restored.
- Wait for the Monitors to reconnect. Locally stored readings sync when the connection returns.
- If a Monitor shows a "back online" entry in its activity but readings are still missing, perform Synchronize Data for it from Kio Setup Manager to recover the stored readings. See Synchronize a Monitor.
The Monitor's battery is depleted
- Check the Monitor for a Low battery status before it went offline.
- Replace the battery on a Temp Monitor Pro, or replace the Monitor for a Temp Monitor Lite, which has a sealed battery. See Replace a Monitor.
If the issue persists
If a single Monitor stays offline while others nearby report normally, and its battery and placement are fine, contact Kontakt.io support. Include the Monitor's Unique ID, the time of its last reading, and the gateways serving its location.
